Outcome

Lawmakers forced the core provisions of the rollback off the table.

Late in the 2026 California session, a proposal emerged to sharply limit utilities' liability for catastrophic wildfires. Influent built a survivor-driven campaign and launched it in five days. More than a thousand Californians, most of them survivors of the Camp, Eaton, Tubbs and Palisades fires, told lawmakers how the fires changed their lives. Their messages came from 183 cities and 258 ZIP codes and were routed to each advocate's own legislators. After four weeks of steady, personal testimony, the core provisions were dropped. The survivors' stories are still on file, ready for the next fight.
